Progressive Soul Group WAR Performs Live at Ameristar Casino KC

Fans packed out Star Pavilion inside of Ameristar Casino in Kansas City, MO on March 11, 2023 to catch funk-rock-soul band WAR perform live in concert. It was three years in the making as the pandemic caused continual rescheduling, but it was every bit worth the long wait. Led by founding member Leroy “Lonnie” Jordan, the group kept the crowd grooving all night long with its list of indelible progressive soul sounds of the 1970s. The talented lineup of musicians on stage alongside Jordan included James Zota Baker (guitar), Scott Martin (saxophone), Mitch Kashmar (harmonica), Sal Rodriguez (drums), Marcos Reyes (percussion) and Trevor Huxley (bass). Jordan was front and center jiving on his keyboard with endless charisma that catapulted patrons to their feet—a much admired stage setup—and the double dose of percussion made the beats pound through our chests through all the beloved songs, including “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Low Rider.”
