Foreigner Brought its Juke Box Hero Tour to Starlight Theatre in Kansas City on July 17, 2018
Our beloved boys of summer on the music scene were back at the coveted Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, MO on July 17, 2018. Out on the “Juke Box Hero” tour, Foreigner returned once again with English drummer and former bandmate Jason Bonham along with his Led Zeppelin Experience plus David Coverdale and his band Whitesnake. A rainstorm would delay the start time, but would hardly hold the legends of rock back from delivering a rapturous night of classics.
Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience hit the stage approximately 30 minutes past the scheduled time with the downpour yet to resign. To much adulation, the venue sold ponchos for $1.00 at the gate. Still, only a very select handful of hardcore fans took their seat as the rest remained beneath the awnings until all was clear. That did not stop Bonham, James Dylan and the crew from going out and putting on a wild and unyielding performance though. They still squeezed in an 8-song set, half of which was altered from last year’s lineup.

Whitesnake stormed the stage next fronted by the legendary David Coverdale. It was a long-awaited appearance in Kansas City that was every bit as had hoped and much more. Along with classic member Tommy Aldridge on drums and an amazing cast of musicians, Coverdale unleashed his greatest hits on the crowd with his unparalleled voice. “Mr. Photogenic” also provided us with some of our absolute favorite shots of the summer and to date.

Speaking of easy on the camera, Foreigner followed with its extraordinary live show full of extreme energy. Legendary singer-songwriter, musician, producer and founding member Mick Jones entered the stage by spotlight with a guitar solo alongside Michael Bluestein on the keyboard and Chris Frazier on drums. As the lights filled the stage, so did frontman Kelly Hansen with guitarists Thom Gimbel and Bruce Watson plus Jeff Pilson on bass. It was a magical night as every time they roll into town. Always, all the classic hits delivered in a brand new way and backed by a spectacular light exhibition. We have a special spot in our hearts for Foreigner and each time seems to coincide with some major moment. This year, the “Juke Box Hero” tour was our 100th event covered since the inception of Live ’80s Kansas City.
