Soul, funk and R&B groups Tower of Power and Average White Band performed live in concert at Star Pavilion inside of Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City on August 25, 2018. Scotland’s AWB took to the stage first featuring its founding members Alan Gorrie (bass/vocals) and Onnie McIntyre (guitar/vocals) followed by San Francisco’s Tower of Power featuring founding members Emilion Castillo (tenor and alto saxophones/vocals) and Stephen ‘Doc’ Kupka (bariton saxophone/vocals). The horned bands dazzled a packed KC crowd with their best hits of the ’70s before heading across the Pacific for a string of shows in Japan, including songs such as “Pick Up the Pieces” and “Cut the Cake” by AWB and “So Very Hard to Go” and “You’re Still a Young Man” by Tower of Power.
