Kauffman Center Presents Featured Boyz II Men Live on October 2, 2019
The best-selling R&B group of all time returned to Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in downtown KCMO on October 2, 2019. The renown trio last appeared alongside the Kansas City symphony on October 30, 2016 inside of the acclaimed Helzberg Hall. This time, however, Kauffman Center Presents featured Boyz II Men as a part of the pop series at the equally coveted Muriel Kauffman Theatre. It was a match made in Heaven. Built with absolute precision for the most perfect acoustics, the venue seemed as if it was designed specifically with the group’s impeccable a cappella harmonies in mind.
Once again, baritone Nathan Morris with tenors Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman dazzled fans by means of their ever-soulful and endearing voices. It was a totally classy, intimate and sentimental performance as perfected all through the past 30 years and enhanced by our city’s extraordinary and prized theater. Originally conceived in high school during the mid- to late-’80s, Boyz II Men went on to garner international success with its slew of emotional love ballads throughout the 1990s. Staying true to the classics, the group sang all of those hits that took them straight to the top of the music industry.
The Boyz II Men members always let their fans know of their sincere appreciation for all the years of support. “We couldn’t let go because you couldn’t let go,” Wanya told the crowd. Truly, they are the quintessential lovers’ group and their legion continues to grow generation by generation. Those fans stood throughout much of the night and sang along to every word. Closing out the evening, Boyz II Men shared the soundtrack of our lives, its first chart-topping hit and signature tune, “End of the Road.” Hearing it inside Muriel Kauffman Theatre was itself an unnatural experience though. Even as patrons joined in with them, it sounded as if the ’90s heart throbs had a massive, beautiful choir singing background vocals.
