R&B and soul artist Charlie Wilson performed live in concert at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City, MO on February 14, 2019. The Valentine’s Day concert was promoted G-Squared Events and hosted by morning show radio personalities Rick and Sasha of Magic 107.3 FM. Ever-debonair ’90s R&B artist Joe opened the show before the legendary former frontman of The Gap Band took to the stage.
Charlie Wilson compiled a multitude of hits as the lead singer of The Gap Band in the late-’70s and ’80s with tunes such “You Dropped a Bomb on Me,” “Outstanding,” “Party Train,” “Burn Rubber on Me,” “Yearning for Your Love” and “Early in the Morning.” Since prosperously going solo in 2000, he has put out six albums with several singles topping the R&B charts. Additionally, he has even received a plethora of award nominations throughout his two-part career, including 11 Grammy Awards and 10 NAACP Image Awards, winning two of them, plus was granted BET’s 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award.
Lovers were on their feet jiving away from the minute Charlie Wilson entered upon his massive “Party Train” featuring back-up dancers along with a dancing horn section and guitarists. The energy never diminished for a moment as he took the crowd on a ride through the classics of The Gap Band all the way through his newest solo hits.
