Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City Brings Color Me Badd & Tone Lōc to Star Pavilion
R&B group Color Me Badd is set to perform live at Ameristar Casino’s Star Pavilion in Kansas City, MO on Saturday, March 2, 2019. Having formed in 1985 as high school students, band members Bryan Abrams, Kevin Thornton, Mark Caldron and Adam Emil went on to achieve tremendous success throughout the 1990s. After some fortuitous encounters with several artists and management, they wrote and recorded “I Adore Mi Amor,” a half-English/half-Spanish song developed on the recommendation of producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Subsequently, they were signed to Giant Records by Cassandra Mills in the summer of 1990.
The debut album for Color Me Badd entitled “C.M.B” (1991) launched them to stardom. It went triple platinum and featured five hit singles, including that “I Adore Mi Amore” (U.S. #1), “All 4 Love” (U.S. #1), “I Wanna Sex You Up” (U.S. #2), “Thinkin’ Back” (U.S. #16) and “Slow Motion” (U.S. #18). In all, they accumulated three No. 1 hits and 17 Top 20s during their career and were even won Favorite R&B/Soul Single at the American Music Awards and Best R&B/Soul Single and R&B/Soul Song of the Year at the Soul Train Music Awards for “I Wann Sex You Up” in 1992 Thornton left the group in 1998 to pursue ministry, and today the band performs as a trio.
Joining the group is rapper, actor and producer Tone Lōc. His raspy voice and distinct delivery catapulted his career in 1989 with the likes of “Wild Thing” (U.S. #2) and “Funky Cold Medina” (U.S. #3). His debut album “Lōc-ed After Dark” (1989) was only the second rap record ever released to top the pop charts. In 1990, Tone Lōc won Favorite Dance New Artist at the American Music Awards. He also boasts a lengthy filmography having played parts in films such “Posse” (1993), “Surf Ninjas” (1993), “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” (1994), “Blank Check” (1994) and “Heat” (1995).
