All female trio and freestyle dance music sensation Exposé released its debut album “Exposure” (1987) on this day 30 years ago. After successful singles in 1984 with “Point of No Return” and “Exposed to Love”—No. 1 and No. 12 on the dance chart respectively—Arista Records gave the group an opportunity for a full-length record. Half way through the recording, the original line-up of Alejandra “Alé” Lorenzo, Sandra “Sandeé” Casañas and Laurie Miller was replaced with Jeanette Jurado, Gioia Bruno and Ann Curless. Today, “Exposed to Love” is the only single featuring the initial three as “Point of No Return” was re-recorded for the album with Jurado on lead vocals.
“Exposure” reached No. 16 on the albums chart and became the first release by any group to feature four Top 10 hits on the pop singles chart—”Come Go with Me” (No. 5), “Point of No Return” (re-recording, No. 5), “Let Me Be the One” (No. 7) and “Seasons Change” (No. 1). Jurado handles lead vocals on the majority of the album’s tracks, while Bruno and Curless each front two of them.
The new and most commercially successful line-up would go on to release the follow up albums “What You Don’t Know” (1989) and “Exposé” (1992). Today, the ladies continue to tour together headlining shows and often appearing on freestyle festival tickets with other ’80s music artists and bands. Stay up-to-date on the Exposé concert calendar for a chance to catch unequivocal trio live.
