Harrah’s Casino Hosted Extreme w/ Living Colour at VooDoo Lounge
Hard rock and heavy metal group Extreme kicked off the very last leg of its “Thicker Than Blood” tour with fellow band Living Colour at VooDoo Lounge inside of Harrah’s Casino & Hotel in North Kansas City, MO on September 1, 2024. Once in a blue moon there is a show that just stands out above all others, one where the stellar talent, atmosphere, stage lighting and impassioned fans all collide for a most memorable night. This was one of those golden moments.
You know when a ton of the local music industry folks turn out for a show that you are about to witness something extra special. Letting the huge crowd make it in the doors, Living Colour went on stage 15 minutes late, creating a bit more hysteria with the anticipation. Together, the bands transported fans back to the late-’80s and early-’90s metal scene. The crowd was electric throughout the performances, but also equally enamored with the stories. VooDoo Lounge, proving itself a premier night club concert venue, provided the most perfect setting for such an experience.
Living Colour’s funk metal set was highlighted by a performance of the signature hit “Cult of Personality.” The band featured founding members Corey Glover (lead vocals), Vernon Reid (guitar) and Will Calhoun (drums) plus classic member Doug Wimbish (bass). Extreme still features founding members Gary Cherone (lead vocals), Nuno Bettencourt (guitar) and Pat Badger (bass) along with Kevin Figueiredo (drums). Their set was a perfect amalgam of electric, semi-acoustic and fully-acoustic performances, topped with Cherone and Bettencourt together for “More Than Words.”
