Foreigner celebrated its 40th anniversary at Starlight Theatre on August 15, 2017
Legendary and eternally beloved rock band Foreigner celebrated its 40th anniversary at Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, MO on August 15, 2017. It was an positively perfect and magical evening as is every time the group comes to town, but this time there was an extra bit of spirited aura in the air. Joining Foreigner throughout the trek are long-time friends Cheap Trick dating back to the its first tour plus former band member Jason Bonham and his Led Zeppelin Experience. The night was jam packed with the sounds that symbolize the ’70s and ’80s, yet continue to leave an endearing mark.
Once the curtain dropped for Foreigner’s set and the members stormed the stage with “Double Vision,” the energy never for a moment mitigated. From the highly spirited performances to the ever-so-sleek stage set and enchanted lighting, the ambiance was absolutely impeccable. It overflowed with everlasting memorable moments from the impassioned playing of soft rock power ballad “Waiting for a Girl Like You” to the nostalgic Mick Jones performance of “Starrider” with light trusses coming down like a spaceship landing. From Tom Gimbel’s infallible saxophone solo during “Urgent” to Kelly Hansen suddenly appearing mid-theatre high above the crowd as he belted out the lyrics to “Juke Box Hero.” It was truly a stellar and unforgettable night, one that every bit met the landmark occasion and exemplified their unparalleled career.
