Journey & Asia Performed Live at Starlight Theatre in Kansas City on July 22, 2017
Classic rock band Journey and progressive supergroup Asia brought their summer tour to Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, MO on July 22, 2017. It came on the heels of the very unfortunate passing of original Asia lead singer John Wetton with Billy Sherwood now fronting alongside original members Carl Palmer (drums) and Geoff Downes (keyboards) plus young guitarist Sam Coulson. To the adulation of the the entire audience, the set featured all of the classics, including “Heat of the Moment,” “Only Time Will Tell,” “Sole Survivor” and “Don’t Cry,” as well as “Video Killed the Radio Star” from Downes’ previous career with The Buggles. As the storms started to roll through town, Journey took the stage with a bang. The band featured Arnel Pineda on lead vocals with founding members Neal Schon (guitar) and Ross Valory (bass) plus long-time member Jonathan Cain (keyboards) and returning member Steve Smith (drums) performing “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” “Be Good to Yourself” and “Only the Young.” By the end of song three, the lightening was running rampant and the show came to a heartbreaking halt.
