Uptown Theater Celebrated 40 Years of “Ice Cream Castles” w/ Morris Day
Kansas City fans were transported 40 years into the past when legendary funk and R&B group Morris Day and The Time performed live in concert at Uptown Theater on February 9, 2024. The neon lights and nostalgic vibe of the venue set the perfect tone, helping to take us back to 1984 when the “Ice Cream Castles” album was released. That record spawned three singles, including the title track along with ever-popular tunes “Jungle Love” and “The Bird,” which were performed in the movie “Purple Rain” starring late and long-time friend and collaborator Prince. The dancing on stage never stopped or even slowed for a single moment. Fans were on their feet and stayed on beat all night long too, singing and grooving to the staple R&B sounds of the greatest decade. A signature invite even saw a stage full of women bumping right along with the band. Competing for highlight of the night though was an riveting performance of “Gigolos Get Lonely Too.”
