Peter Cetera topped the pop chart on this day 30 years ago with the single “Glory of Love” (1986). It was originally recorded to serve as the end title track for “Rocky IV” (1985), but United Artists passed on the song and it became the theme for the martial arts drama film “The Karate Kid, Part II” (1986) starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita. Check out the music video featuring clips from the cult classic. It was Cetera’s first hit following his departure from the band Chicago of which he was an original member. Although he pitched working on his solo career between tours, the band declined and he soon departed in the summer of 1985. The tune is included on the album “Solitude/Solitaire” (1986) [No. 26] released the following summer along with his second chart-topper “The Next Time I Fall” (1986), a duet with Amy Grant. Cetera went on to place four more songs in the Top 40 as a solo artist.
