Styx Announces First Album in 14 Years, Set to Perform at The Midland

Styx has announced the release of its 16th studio album “The Mission” set to launch on June 16. The brand new record comes to us four decades after the band catapulted itself to fame with the title that featured hits such as “Come Sail Away” and “Fooling Yourself.” “In the 40th anniversary of our release of our biggest selling album of all time, ‘Grand Illusion,'” guitarist and founding member James “JY” Young said, “It just seemed truly appropriate to save our new studio album until this year. Needless to say, I’m very excited.”

“The Mission,” written by vocalist and guitarist Tommy Shaw and long-time collaborator Will Evankovick, chronicles the adventures of a six-person crew aboard the Khedive—the first manned mission to Mars in 2033—and is a retrogression of the progressive rock sounds of the band’s early career melded with its popular power pop melodies. “The planets truly aligned for ‘The Mission,’ and I couldn’t be prouder,” Shaw shared. “It’s our boldest, most emblematic album since ‘Pieces of Eight.'”

The first single from the new album, “Gone Gone Gone,” was released to radio stations and online this past week, and has even spawned a new music video. Kansas City fans can get a taste of it live along with classic hits such as “Lady” and “Too Much Time on My Hands” when Styx performs at Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland this next Tuesday, May 2. Tickets range from $49.50 to $84.50 and are available online via AXS, in person at the venue box office or by calling 816-283-9921. The Midland is located at 1228 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64105. Doors open at 7pm, show starts at 8pm.
